General Questions

Ticket Buyback is a website that allows fans to sell their event tickets directly to us. We offer instant quotes and secure payouts.

The process is simple:
1. Search for your event and enter your seat details to receive an instant quote.
2. Accept the offer and provide your bank account to receive payments.
3. Send us the tickets.
4. Get paid after the event date.

We accept tickets for concerts, sports games, theater shows, and other live events. Use the event search to see if we are offering quotes for your event. Every day we add hundreds of new events to our catalog. Our goal is to have an instant offer for 100% of seats across all major events. If we are missing a large event that you think we should have on our site, we encourage you to and we will look into it. Please note: we may exclude events with restricted transfers or other resale limitations.

No. Ticket Buyback is a site for sellers of extra tickets.

Yes, an account is required for tracking your orders and processing payments securely.

There are zero fees at Ticket Buyback. Other resale sites take 20% to 30% in fees and they don't even guarantee a sale. Our site is designed to be the most convenient way to sell tickets. There is no wait and you get an instant sale.

Quotes

No, our offers are algorithmically determined based on market trends, demand, and event details.

Quotes are valid only for a limited time (typically an hour). If your quote expires, you must request a new one and the new quote may be the same, higher, or lower. In rare cases like conditional playoff games, rescheduled events, or performer changes, we may end a quote early due to the changing market.

Selling My Tickets

We accept Mobile Transfer, PDF and Mobile QR. At this time, we do not accept Physical Tickets, Will Call, or Wallet tickets. We also do not accept any non-event tickets like club access or parking passes.

We accept single GA (General Admission) tickets. For reserved seating, we accept two or more seats that are next to each other.

We may turn off quotes for events at any time. Use the event search to see whether your event is still active. We may have a shorter quote and transfer deadline to make sure the transaction is completed in time for the event.

Our quotes use current market conditions and we cannot reliably predict whether prices will go up or down. In our experience, on average, we find that prices go down as you get closer to the event. This means that selling now is usually best to obtain the highest possible quote.

Yes, though we may not start offering quotes for those events if they are not guaranteed to happen. Please use the event search to see if your event is listed.

You are required to provide all relevant information that was part of the initial purchase. This includes any limited view designation, age limitation (21+ only or child), or accessibility status. Failure to denote tickets as such can lead to order cancellation and possible penalties.

Yes! For now, you must do so one game at a time. It is on our roadmap to add a feature where we can provide quotes on multiple events for the same seat locations in a single order.

No. It is optional but it may increase your quote slightly. In ~20 of 50 states, we will be able to increase your quote if you provide an accurate Face Value due to state sales tax regulations.

Ticket Transfer & Verification

When you sell mobile transfer tickets, you will send the tickets through the ticket website or app you purchased the tickets from, such as Ticketmaster or AXS. You will transfer the tickets to the email address provided on the confirmation step. It can also be found in the order email or Sales tab. If first and last name are required as well, you can use “Ticket” and “Buyback.”

These ticket types are still accepted, though we require a credit card on file to protect against fraud. This is to protect us in the case a seller creates multiple copies of the same ticket. For example, if we find that the tickets are invalid, we reserve the right to charge the credit card on file penalties associated with the order.

The order will expire. You will need to generate a new quote to sell your tickets. If you notify us before the deadline that you need additional time, we may allow for a delivery date change, but we may require a credit card on file to protect against fraud and unfilled orders.

If you are not able to transfer the tickets by the transfer deadline, then, by default, the order is cancelled at the deadline. You would need to create a new quote at the time you are ready to send your tickets.

We are aware that some event organizers may only permit ticket transfers closer to the event date. In this case, we may request proof of purchase and for you to add a valid credit card on file to lock in your original quote. In the event that you fail to transfer the tickets when they become available, we will charge the card on file to make up for any costs in handling replacements for your unfulfilled sale.

Please contact the ticket service you purchased tickets from for details. If they confirm that the event will not allow transfer, we will be forced to cancel the order since there is no way to receive the tickets.

We monitor our incoming transfers on a 24/7 basis and we will verify the seats from the quote match the seats we received. Once confirmed, the status should change in your account and you will be sent an email notification.

Incorrect transfers may result in order cancellation if we do not receive the correct tickets promptly. We will attempt to return the incorrect tickets to the email on your account.

Ticket transfers sometimes have unexpected errors. If this occurs, we may ask you to cancel the transfer and reattempt. If there are further issues, we may ask you to contact the ticket company you’re using to transfer the tickets to troubleshoot this issue.

If you have already completed the sale to us and you have reason to suspect that the original seat locations or tickets are no longer valid, it is your responsibility to reach out to us promptly. We may require you to send us the new replacement tickets to recomplete the order. If the tickets are worse than the ones you sold originally, we reserve the right to cancel the order and charge for replacement tickets.

You are done! The sale is final. You will receive payment after the event takes place. This timeline ensures there were no issues with the tickets and falls in line with industry standards.

Payment & Fees

Yes. Our quotes and sales are always in USD. We may provide an estimate for display purposes only using the current exchange rate, but we will transfer in USD and you will receive the CAD payout based on the exchange rate at time of payment, minus any currency conversion fees that our payout provider Routable takes.

When creating an order, you can choose to receive payment in either USD or CAD. To receive CAD payouts, first add a CAD bank account under Settings > Payout Methods.

If you only have one active payout account, it will be selected automatically during the Sell Flow. If you have both USD and CAD accounts, the account matching the event currency will be selected by default, and you can switch to the other account if preferred.

No.

We will send payment three days after the event. This timeline ensures there were no issues with the tickets and falls in line with industry standards (Ticketmaster, Stubhub, Seatgeek, and Vivid Seats). Once sent, bank transfers usually take around four business days to reach your account. So overall, it should arrive 7 business days after the event (9-11 calendar days depending on weekends and holidays) for it to hit your account.

Assuming that (i) the event was not cancelled, (ii) there were no issues with the tickets, and (iii) it has passed the typical payment timeline, please . You may have an invalid payment method on file or be required to fill out a tax form if you have passed the IRS threshold.

We will always support ACH bank transfers. If we allow any other options, they will be listed during the sale process.

For certain sales, we require a credit card on file as a fraud prevention measure. This requirement falls in line with industry standards (Ticketmaster, Stubhub, Vivid Seats). We will never charge the card unless there is an issue with the order.

Ticket Buyback does not store your bank account information directly. Instead, we use Routable, a secure and compliant third-party provider specializing in payment processing.

Routable uses bank-grade encryption (TLS 1.2+), is SOC 2 Type II certified, and ensures that your personal information, including email addresses and bank account details, is safely stored and protected.

  • Data encryption: All information is encrypted at rest and in transit.
  • Compliance: Routable is compliant with SOC 2, GDPR, and CCPA standards.
  • Limited access: Ticket Buyback only has access to limited information (e.g., masked account details).

For more information, you can review Ticket Buyback Terms & Conditions and Routable’s Security Page.

Tax & Compliance

If you surpass certain sales thresholds, we will be required to issue a 1099-K form for tax compliance. We may withhold the payment that puts you over the threshold, until you fill out a W-9 form (US) or W-8BEN (Intl). This will be part of the selling process if a sale puts you above the threshold or you may fill it out on My Account.

You should discuss this question with your tax advisor. The answer should be similar for any online site where you sell your tickets.

For events in certain states that charge sales tax on the resale of tickets, your quote may increase if you provide accurate Face Value information.

Cancelled & Postponed Events

If an event is officially cancelled and you have not been paid, the sale is cancelled and no further action is required. You should reach out to your point of purchase for a refund because only the original ticket purchaser is issued a refund.

If an event is officially cancelled and you have already been paid, the sale is cancelled and you must refund the full paid amount to Ticket Buyback within five business days. If you do not yet have a credit card on file, we will require you to provide that information. We will charge an amount equal to your payment amount. You should then reach out to your point of purchase for a refund because only the original ticket purchaser is issued a refund.

No, all sales are final once the tickets are received and verified. This includes instances when the event is rescheduled and you are now available to attend the new date.

Cancelled Sales and Penalties

Each of the following cases may result in order cancellation and penalties. If you sold tickets and there is an issue, please update us immediately to minimize the penalties.

Common issues
  • The event has a transfer delay and you are not able to deliver the tickets when the transfer delay ends.
  • The tickets do not scan correctly at the venue.
  • You sell the tickets to another site at the same time.
  • The original ticketing site cancelled your tickets.
  • The venue relocated your seats or reissued your tickets. You must send us the new seats and they must be equal to or better than the previous seats.
  • We learn that you did not accurately list your tickets and missed an important disclosure (like limited view, 21+ age restriction, or accessibility status).

In all cases, we will investigate the matter and you will be able to provide details to support your claim. We may issue a penalty if we find that you were at fault.

We follow industry standards. If you have already been paid, we will issue a charge to refund that amount. Then, we will add a penalty for the greater of:
  • 100% of the price of the tickets sold.
  • The full amount incurred to remedy the dropped sale. This may include additional costs to provide comparable replacement tickets.

Penalties tend to be higher if they result in a negative experience for someone who shows up to the event and their tickets don’t work. We need to hear about potential issues as early as possible and will work with you to minimize possible penalties.
